My New Favourite Design App – Houzz.com
A few weeks ago, we upgraded our iPhone and spent the evening updating contact lists and calendars (all the boring stuff). Then came the fun stuff – we started looking for fun and new apps. Aside from the standard solitaire and word search, we came across an design app recommended by our friend, Lynne. The app is called Houzz.com (yes – they have a website too!) and it is an archive of over 200K+ pictures of interior and exterior designs. It’s like looking through a stack of virtual design magazines and getting ideas or inspiration. You can categorize by interior …
Digital Art Transforms Hotel Lobby in Vegas
A few months ago, Michael and I headed to Las Vegas for a friend’s birthday celebration. We have watched the building of City Center over the last five years and finally were able to stay at the Aria. During one of our late night jaunts down the strip the group of us bumbled into the newly opened Hotel & Casino, The Cosmopolitan. We were stunned by what we saw. We were surrounded everywhere by beautiful and innovative design – from an oversized crystal chandelier in which sits a bar and lounge, to velvet loungers and finally to the pinnacle of …
Binkleys Summer Renovation Project
Its been a while since either of us has added to our blog. We’ve been hard a work, renovating a condo property that we bought in early July. Since the bylaws restricted us to working there only during the day, we used the evenings to work at our “regular” jobs of sculpture (me) and web design (Michelle). We took the property that we bought and gutted the 1980‘s kitchen and bathroom and replaced them both. Above is Michelle’s design for the kitchen sink counter and backsplash. We used good old Ikea cabinets and sink and tap. We added cashmere white …
Warming Huts Design by Patkau Architects in Vancouver
This picture shows a close up of an award winning design for a warming hut, by Patkau Architects, a firm in Vancouver. The design is called “Jellyfish” and it one of 5 winning proposals chosen from over 130 submissions from around the world. I love the curvilinear lines and the simplistic nature of the warming hut – it’s easy to envision tucking into the pod-like structure to huddle for a moment before continuing to brace the cold weather. The warming huts are placed along the River Trail in Winnipeg Manitoba, to promote wintertime outdoor activities, even in severe temperatures. It’s …
NYC the David Rubenstein Atrium
During our recent NYC trip in mid-November, we happened upon the David Rubenstein Atrium at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Running out of steam and in desperate need of an afternoon coffee, we found this atrium that had not only a fabulous coffee bar and WiFi, but a feast for our eyes. We walked into this extra tall space that was a murmur and a hush, like a kindergarten class during quiet time. The amount of people lingering or with their heads in laptops was a marvel to see surrounded by an excellent mixture of art. The atrium …
